DISCLAIMER: We have not built a kit from this line as it is now impossible to find any copies of these as far as we are aware for us to examine. This article exists entirely as a historical reference and we will not pass any personal judgement about the toyline.
Overview
Let us preface this by saying that this was probably the most difficult line for us to find any evidence about the company about, except the entirely elusive creators of Pretty Armor. All we got for you is that Future Model existed at one point, was definitely Chinese in origin, and they probably don’t exist anymore. We can’t even find a Weibo, though we know one must’ve existed because there are modelers on Facebook have claimed to have discovered this line through Weibo. Even the damn logo that we have here is largely a placeholder as we can’t find one.
A shame, really, because we do find these deep dives into toy manufacturer history fascinating.
As far as we are able to confirm, Future Model created a toyline called Weapon Girl. The only two kits that are known to exist from the line are bootlegged versions of Frame Arms Girl Hresvelgr for 01, and a mix of parts from Megami Device’s SOL and ASRA lines for 02, combined with bootlegged parts from the RG Red Astray (for 01) and the Deathscythe (for 02). Even the name sounds bootlegged (Weapon Girl does kinda sound like an off-brand Frame Arms Girl, doesn’t it?).
These kits were released throughout 2019 to 2020, before Future Model vanished off the face of the Earth, never to be seen again.
Construction and Engineering:
Sadly, with no copy of our own to verify, we will have to rely on reviews. Most of the reviews in languages we understand are pretty mixed, but consistent on a few things.
Firstly, these things have lower quality than either Frame Arms Girl, Megami Device, or the Gundam kits they take their parts from in general, feeling like they were produced on the cheap. Which, in fairness, they probably were. This means breakage problems, crappy tolerances, bad gate placement and ABS hands that basically lock onto the weapons it comes with.
Secondly, the instructions are absolutely terrible, which ups the already artificially inflated difficulty.
Thirdly and finally, the engineering, despite copying Kotobukiya’s good work still isn’t great, which we can probably attribute to them copying Kotobukiya without understanding why Kotobukiya was doing what they were doing.
However, they did come with two bodies each, one armored and one unarmored, so that’s positive.
Aesthetics:
If there is something good we can say about Weapon Girl, it’s that their silhouettes are phenomenal. Assuming both the modeler and the kit survive assembly, the kits are pretty nice looking. If you use a bit of paint and elbow grease, that is. The only real point of contention here are the faceplates, but honestly, if you aren’t Kotobukiya circa 2020, you’re not putting out good faceplates, so fair play.
Ease of Acquisition:
As far as we know, unlike damn near every other model kit we discuss in this guide, it is now impossible to get one of these. We checked Taobao, we checked AliExpress, we checked Facebook, we even in some desperation checked Amazon JP after seeing they had a listing for this thing and de nada. Short of a private collector offering to sell you their copy – assuming it hasn’t been destroyed by the passage of time or scrapped – you’re never getting one of these.
However, if you’re really that fussed, you can build a significantly better version of 01 with an RG Astray Red Frame and a repainted Hresvelgr, and 02 with a SOL Roadrunner, ASRA Ninja and a Deathscythe. It would probably be more expensive though; Weapon Girl 01 retailed at £27($35) while 02 retailed at £30($40), which would be significantly cheaper, for significantly more plastic, than buying all of the component kits.
Official Site: None. As far as we know, Future Model’s founders ran off and are probably in Tahiti sipping mai tais with the profits.
