Arcanadea

DISCLAIMER: There is a known bootleg figure of Lumitea lurking around various market sites. Be wary of her; Kotobukiya has, to our knowledge, not created such a figure and the line is strictly model kits and model kit accessories.

Overview

A fantasy-themed offering by model kit giant Kotobukiya, Arcanadea (occasionally stylized as Arca Nadea, which some sites will list this as) is one of their 1:10-sized lines alongside Frame Arms Girl, Megalomaria and Sousai Shoujo Teien, all listed later in this guide.

The line’s concept revolves around demihuman girls labeled “Dears”. In Arcanadea’s lore, Eden Industries somehow managed to stumble upon a different world laden with Arcana particles; disguising it as a popular VRMMO called, what else, Arcanadea, they would mine the world for these Arcana particles. As long as Eden Industries didn’t fuck up, everything was fine.

So anyway, Eden Industries fucked up.

The “servers” maintaining the connection between our world and Arcanadea’s world exploded, and now the Dears (and the monsters from their world) are wandering around our reality now, only visible to certain “Masters” who get paid by Eden to make sure the Dears don’t do anything stupid and kill everyone.

Character designs for the line are provided by necomi (most well-known for Looks Are All You Need) and Z-Ton (known for Monster Girl Doctor). Other designers on the line include Nidy -2D- (if you’re familiar with other Kotobukiya lines, you might know him) and whoopin.

The first kit in the line, the angelic Lumitea, dropped in December 2021; other kits in the line include the demon-themed Velretta, the centauress Elena and the draconic Gii. The line also has the XenoAlma subline, featuring monsters that can switch between separate monster forms or weapons and armor for the Dears. An anime fleshing out the Arcanadea lore was announced in late 2024 with an unknown release date as of this writing.

Construction and Engineering

Sporting fairly high-quality engineering and construction, there really isn’t much to complain about with Arcanadea. The models are very high quality in general, with a degree of adaptation from character design to physical kit that isn’t rivaled even among other Kotobukiya kits.

The main issues common to the line are fragile joints – a particular issue as, unlike most Kotobukiya lines, Arcanadea rarely comes with spares – and occasional articulation issues as the tails, wings, unique bodily structures (in the case of Elena and Meltina) do mean that the kits don’t move or flex like most girlpla.  Detailed parts among some kits (such as Soffiera) are also very fragile and with the lack of spares, this can spell disaster for the inexperienced modeller.

Aesthetics:

Of the fantasy-themed lines currently on the market (30 Minutes Fantasy, Another World’s Travel Notes, Cyber Forest), Arcanadea has by far the most consistently beautiful designs, again courtesy of necomi and Z-Ton. Each kit is a standout on a shelf, especially Elena, whose centaur body plan has only thus far been matched in quality by Nuke Matrix’s Yefuna Malkina, and the significantly less impressive Gene Interference Egurihime’s mantis-centaur form. 

The line’s gimmick of having a non-combat (Relax) and combat (Wilize) form also provides endless opportunities for customization even before getting into the world of kitbashing and modifications. Later kits also come with transforming weapons (like Yukumo’s staff/sword and Meltina’s staff/rapier) If you don’t mind a bit of horniness and love fantasy, you can’t go wrong with Arcanadea.

Ease of Acquisition:

Arcanadea is consistently on the higher end of kit costs. Lumitea retails at ¥ 6300 (roughly £30 or $40), while the titanic Elena retails at ¥ 8900 (£40/$50). However, most retailers that stock Kotobukiya products will stock Arcanadea, so as long as you can pay the hefty shipping fee (especially for larger girls like Elena), you won’t be spoiled for choice as to where to get them from.

 Personal Verdict?

A solid line from Kotobukiya, Arcanadea best appeals to fans of fantasy anime with demihumans that would not be out of place in something like Tensura. With very little to recommend against and a lot going for it, Arcanadea kits are well worth your while.

Personal Recommendations:

While the community swears by Elena, we personally were huge fans of Lumitea and Yukumo. Sometimes, simpler is better.
