Construction and Engineering
Basically, this is just Sisters with extra spice. There are going to be a few extra complexities to account for hairdos, different styles and weapons, but overall, if you have a basic understanding of how to build the average snap-fit model kit or if you can build a Sister you can almost certainly build a Preference kit. The engineering isn’t much to talk about, though unlike with the Sisters line, Bandai is more willing to mess around with soft goods or more experimental engineering techniques, and this can hamper customisability when custom head/hair piece shapes or neck joints are incompatible with the rest of the 30 Minutes Label line-up.
Aesthetics
As a line sold on the premise of being able to build your favorite anime characters in under 30 minutes, your mileage will vary depending on if you actually like that character or not. If you’re the type of person who yearns for Bocchi, localised in your very shelf, at this time of year, go ahead. If you don’t care for Bocchi, or for any of the franchises Preference is intending to cover? This line might not be for you.
Ease of Acquisition
Preference is very easily the most expensive of the four Label lines, starting at a retail price of roughly ¥4000 (£19/$25) and exploding upwards. Also note that the licensing fees may further bump up prices for import. Any shop that has Bandai kits will probably stock Preference, though actual availability will depend on region.
Personal Verdict?
If you like the characters that this line has for you to offer, go and buy one. They’re definitely cheaper and easier to get your hands on than their counterparts in PLAMATEA or the various Kotobukiya licensed model kits, but less impressive. However, they’re significantly better in quality than PLAMATEA and still a solid second place in a hypothetical girlpla ranking for “model kit lines that focus entirely on making anime characters”.
