DISCLAIMER: We have only built one kit from this line and are basing this partially on the reviews of others. We will update this write-up once we get our hands on a second kit to have a point of comparison. Treat this entry as a work in progress.
Overview
The brainchild of illustrator Akira “Akiman” Yasuda (known for his work on works as diverse as Turn A Gundam, Street Fighter 2, Red Dead Revolver and Overman King Gainer) and produced in collaboration with Max Factory, Godz Order (stylized as GODZ ORDER) is one of those artist-driven lines with a weird, but cool concept, as many of them often do.
GODZ ORDER focuses on the world of Selestialia, created by rich corporate overlords in a nation called Fantagio. When the opposing nation of Olympus declared war on Fantagio, countless peoples’ minds were stuck in robot proxies while Olympus sent Overlords to destroy Fantagio. To combat these Overlords, heroic individuals have carried out Soul Injection to become Celestial Knights to fight the gods above, who fight under the command of the enigmatic Gabriel.
These kits also advertise being created wholly and entirely in Japan and come with booklets containing interviews and lore on GODZ ORDER. The first kit, Yuri, was released in 2022, with sporadic releases throughout 2023, 2024 and 2026.
As a final aside, these kits belong to the PLAMAX kit line.
Construction and Engineering
Max Factory is in top form with these kits, being an absolute delight to build. With high plastic quality and very good articulation, these kits don’t seem like they’d have too many problems at first glance and overall, they’re pretty well-made. However, there are some glaring issues that take away from what would otherwise be glowing praise from us. For instance, the skirt/tabards on the kits tend to be very loose and easy to dislodge when posing, and the wings and weapons can throw the kits off balance, making them somewhat annoying to pose. However, these are reasonably easy to fix, if annoying to deal with for the relative beginner.
Aesthetics:
Like most artist-driven lines, GODZ ORDER has a unique look, even past the fantasy niche it occupies, with designs being reminiscent of science fantasy JRPGs, fitting ot the science fantasy setting of Selestialia.. The Valkyrie theming combined with the absolutely beautiful character design is more than enough to recommend these kits on their own and is by far their draw.
Ease of Acquisition:
Sadly, like most artist-driven lines, these kits get reprinted once in a blue moon and cost a fortune. Initial retail prices for the kits start at ¥8800 (£41/$55); secondhand buyers may see them at around ¥6300 (£29/$40). Still, they do lurk around sites like AmiAmi and Mandarake, so if you’re yearning for one, go fish.
Personal Verdict?
While there are teething issues with the kits from time to time, GODZ ORDER is a highly recommended line, with incredible plastic quality, good build quality and a unique aesthetic that you can’t find anywhere else courtesy of Akiman’s character design, and comes very highly recommended, especially given the often inconsistent quality of kits that come from the collaboration between Good Smile and Max Factory.
Personal Recommendations:
Megumi Asmodeus is our favorite design of the four, though all of them honestly look cool.
