In addition, we’re planning an article on the Wushuang Model Combat Armour kit at some point; we’ve managed to actually find one of these things, so we’re going to go in on building it ourselves. (Which is great, because finding people who built one and actually wrote about it extensively is a pain.)
Also, for the rest of August, we’ll be reviewing AliExpress/Temu tat model kits in what we’ll be dubbing the Month of Temu Tat; 3D-printed junk kits that you can get on the cheap that we would normally not be touching on this site, but we’re going to take advantage of the format of these reviews to cover them.
Anyway, let’s get on with the second part of Megami Device’s WISM kit, Snipe/Grapple!
Overview
Coming out in January 2017, Snipe/Grapple were the wavemates of Assault/Scout; whereas Assault focused on being a generalist and Scout was slated as a reconnaissance expert, Grapple was a melee specialist and Snipe a long-range specialist as befits her name. Like Assault/Scout, their Real Type variant was released during WonFes 2017 the next month.
As much of what is true about Assault/Scout is also true of Snipe/Grapple, we’re actually going to use this review to compare the contents of both kits for future reference.
Construction and Engineering
Both kits contain the same base parts; enough parts to fully build either the armored or unarmored form of one girl, and swappable (in theory) parts to allow you to build one of each girl. As mentioned last week in our Assault/Scout review, you would need to buy four WISM kits to build all four girls. However, their differences are where they get a little interesting:
- While both Assault/Scout and Snipe/Grapple possess a visored helmet, Snipe/Grapple’s helmet possesses, in addition to the horn attachment both kits have and the various rank insignia, an extra antenna attachment (intended for Snipe), two cat ears (intended for Grapple) and a mono-eye visor that can either be used for Snipe or for a hypothetical drone soldier if you so please.
- Snipe/Grapple also possesses more attachments than Assault/Scout, and slightly more sophisticated ones to boot. Assault/Scout can attach Scout’s drone to her gun, while Snipe can either have a long barrel attachment (for sniping, obviously) or a flamethower attachment complete with miniature gas tank.
For what reason a character intended for long-range combat would have a fundamentally short-ranged weapon (or, in-universe, a robot would have a flamethrower that could actually permanently damage another Megami) is, of course, beyond our understanding. - Conversely, however, Assault/Scout possesses wing attachments that can attach to her drone or to the odd battery pack (an affectation that every post-WISM kit does without) and turn it into a jetpack.
- Finally, Snipe/Grapple possesses fiddly hand attachments that are used by Grapple to fight in melee, which attach to the same ports as the normal hands do. Theoretically, you could (and we have) equipped them onto Assault/Snipe’s arms as a result.
Aesthetics
While we admit we have a soft spot for the potato-faced plain Assault, Grapple appeals to our primal lizard brain. She’s a rough and mischievous catgirl whose attacks are punching something until it dies.
Granted, if we had to say something about the kit, it is that we wished they had a few extra armor pieces to reflect Grapple’s status as a melee fighter.
Ease of Acquisition
About the same as their wavemates, give or take.
Personal Verdict?
As with their wavemates, while most of the community will swear by AUV, ASRA or the Punis, we will be WISM’s strongest soldier and await the day when we can finally get a Block 2 version.
Overall score: 7.5/10, the same score as their wavemates.
