Pirate Queen Anne (Border Model)

Overview

One of Border Model’s snapfit model kit efforts, Pirate Queen Anne is their third effort after Hell Knight Syl and Tesla Trooper. In our honest opinion, she is a major improvement.

Construction and Engineering

While the plastic still isn’t quite up to snuff, it’s a significant improvement over Syl, who felt pretty cheap in the hand.

The engineering is a mixed bag. While we admit it’s still better than Syl, the odd proportions (reminiscent of ATK Girl’s long, leggy kits) are still a point of contention. The actual technology isn’t anything fantastic, but we appreciate the two different chest options to prevent Anne from getting in her own way when going for more dynamic poses.

We did encounter an issue trying to set up the plastic chains for her turtle mount, however, as the chain is just too short to properly set the whole thing up.

Aesthetics:

The pirate aesthetic is something that is surprisingly underused in the girlpla sphere; to date, we can only name Seven Deadly Sins’ Greed and Armored Puppet’s Mr. J as other pirate-themed kits. On that alone, we can recommend Anne if you’re looking to fill that Jack Sparrow-shaped hole in your life.

Her actual weapons and mount are also pretty cool, with a giant cannon, a flintlock pistol and a cutlass, as well as a set of treasure chests. While not as jam-packed as other Chinese model kits, again, it’s a hell of an improvement over Syl.

Ease of Acquisition:

At the eye-gouging retail mark of ¥9400 (roughly £44/ $59) with less in the box than kits of equal price, Anne can be a bit of a hard sell. HobbyLink Japan (at the time of writing) has her at a discounted price of ¥8000 (roughly £37/ $50), but there’s no telling when this will stop being the case. As usual, AliExpress is also helpful finding these kits.

Personal Verdict?

While still not perfect, with still iffy plastic quality and engineering, Pirate Queen Anne is a significant improvement over Border Model’s previous effort, and if you’re looking for a pirate girl and can’t afford the eyewatering prices for the Seven Deadly Sins girls, Anne is a solid second place.
