Overview
A multimedia project released in early 2026 by Good Smile Company as a subline of their PLAMATEA plastic model kit line, Valkyrie Tune focuses on members of the TUNED unit who use “harmonic weapons” – large weapons that resemble musical instruments. The line’s first kits, Lisa Caster and Iris Bruckner, dropped in early 2026, around the same time a visual novel tie-in, Valkyrie Tune Synthesis of Souls, was announced, developed by Frontwing (most well-known for the Grisaia series) and written by Akihiro Ishihara (known for being series director for The Idolmaster), for release mid-2026. Erika Stradivari would drop later in 2026.
Construction and Engineering
Good Smile Company has a reputation for spotty quality with regards to its other plastic model series and, in that respect, Valkyrie Tune is no different with plastic that can feel cheap and soft. The engineering is nothing to write home about, being fairly middle of the road, with some questionable decisions (such as using thin parts held in place by thinner tabs). With iffy plastic quality and questionable design decisions, Lisa and Iris, despite looking cool, really feel more of a hassle to build than is really justifiable.
Aesthetics:
Aesthetics-wise, the line feels like it’s aiming somewhere between Symphogear and Bang Dream, and is probably the most convincing reason to buy a Valkyrie Tune kit. The musical theme is pretty unique in the model kit market so far, with only the Kessoku Band girls in 30 Minutes Preference having nearly as much an emphasis on music. If you’re the sort of person who buys kits for vibes and enjoys music-themed anime, you won’t be disappointed by Valkyrie Tune.
Ease of Acquisition:
While not the most expensive kits at an asking price of ¥7500 (£35/$47) for Iris and Lisa, and ¥8800 (£41/$55) for Erika, these present a fairly huge mark-up over their competitors (for comparison, PUNI MOFU Mao retails at ¥5400 and Gunner at around ¥5900), price points similar to their licensed PLAMATEA brethren. Do note that HLJ does have them at a slightly cheaper price than GSC proper, at around ¥ 6900 (£32/$43). Otherwise, these kits are available nearly at any online retailer that exports from Japan.
Personal Verdict?
Valkyrie Tune is not a must-have set of kits. With the traditionally iffy plastic quality GSC continues to display with PLAMATEA, questionable design and high price points, Valkyrie Tune’s main attraction is its musical theme, which may not be for everyone. You may want to skip this set of kits if the designs don’t appeal to you.
Personal Recommendations:
Lisa Caster; while she does have questionable engineering, her design was the cutest and we really do quite like guitarists.
