PLAMAX

Overview

Max Factory is a company founded by Makoto “Max” Watanabe in 1987; Watanabe is a legendary figure in modeling and if you want to look him up, a lot of the body of his work is outside the scope of this guide, but he’s done everything. Max Factory, named for Watanabe, does a bit of everything; figures, alloy toys, garage kits and pretty famously, the figma action figures.  Of course, Watanabe made his name on model kits, so it makes sense that a lot of Max Factory’s output is plastic model kits.

One of Max Factory’s model kit lines primarily distributed through their working relationship with Good Smile, PLAMAX is a bit of an odd one. 

PLAMAX is really much closer to an umbrella covering all of Max Factory’s work with GSC; most of their products are distributed through GSC to the point you can’t buy goods from Max Factory’s website and have to buy them through GSC. As such, PLAMAX covers a variety of different types of model kits; snap-fit mecha, static model kits, traditional vehicle kits, even a few figures and accessories.

For completion’s sake, we’ll list down some of the more notable sublines.

• Naked Angel – this is a line of static model kits based on Japanese porn stars. That is all that will be said of this line in this guide.
  
• Minimum Factory – this is a line of static model kits at 1:20 scale. While most of them are original characters paired with vehicles, there is no shortage of licensed kits in this line, with franchises covered including Shin Megami Tensei, Macross, Girls und Panzer, Gunbuster and Kemono Friends. It even includes a model kit of legendary NJPW talent Tetsuya Naito!

• GODZ ORDER and Guilty Princess, which have their own sections.

As the vast majority of the model kits that qualify for inclusion in this guide already have their own articles, this article is here for the sake of completion. Sophia F. Shirring, Ichi and Xi, as the only kits that are not part of the aforementioned lines, will be given their own articles as and when we receive the information to write one on them.
